Elementary Mathematics Methods II (TE801) - Fall 2017, Fall 2018

  • Chris Dubbs is the kind of instructor that students hope for. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the content he is teaching, and pushes his students to consider other perspectives on many issues. Chris is also incredibly understanding of the demands of the internship and works to ensure that genuine intern learning is the main priority. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would recommend Chris as an instructor to all.

  • Christopher is a wonderful teacher. He had knowledge that he not only shared about teaching mathematics, but also demonstrated. He provided various examples of groupworthy tasks, allowed us time to create our own, and even taught a groupworthy task in Spanish so we would have an idea of how to assist our E.L.L. students. Chris also provided us with helpful resources and ideas for our own classroom. He provided ample time to ask questions in the course and was available to help us in any way he could during class. I look forward to using what I learned this semester in Chris's class in my own classroom!

  • Chris was an excellent instructor. His knowledge of the content and enthusiasm about teaching was infectious. As a student, I knew that he had my best interest and that he would assist me in any way that I needed. I thoroughly enjoyed his course.

  • Chris made this course really enjoyable and tried to make it as stress free as possible for us which was very helpful when we have additional courses and are in the classroom.

  • I enjoyed having Chris as my instructor. He was very understanding with my stress level and gave me extra time if needed. Also, he showed us different ways to engage our students, other than the worksheet and pencil combo.

Elementary Mathematics Methods I (TE406) - Spring 2018, Spring 2019

  • Chris Dubbs is an exceptional instructor; everybody should have the same teaching philosophy as him. He cares more about our learning and growth rather than formalities and solely grades and formats. He cares about equity and inclusion and demonstrates that through his leadership in the course.

  • I enjoyed that this class really focused around us and what we wanted to learn. We advocated for our own learning a lot in this course, and I enjoyed that.

  • Chris was my favorite methods teachers. Extremely supportive, but allowed us to set the high bar for ourselves without pressures of intense due dates or rubrics. We were able to reflect on our own work and decide if it was something we felt proud of. I have not seen this reflected in any other 400 level course. I am most proud of the work I completed in this class and took away the most from this course.

  • The course was very helpful with preparing me for my internship year. I felt supported and challenged in each class.

  • This course and instructor were very helpful in my learning about how to teach math to diverse learners.

Geometry for Elementary Teachers (MTH 202) - Spring 2019

  • Chris is a great instructor! I really enjoyed MTH 202 more than MTH 201 and it was due to the way that he taught us. He is super understanding and welcoming to questions. I had class during his office hours and he was always willing to meet with me outside of class and change his schedule to do so. He always answered all of my questions that I had and helped us see things different ways when we did not understand. I would 100% recommend Chris to another student. I liked doing the journals as they helped me get an understanding of the course concepts and whether or not I fully understand them. When I get into my student teaching or even in my own classroom, I will use the journals to help me. Chris is a great instructor and I learned a lot from him!

  • I appreciated the amount of effort Chris put into trying to help everyone understand the concepts. When someone asked a question that was a bit beyond what the course was designed to teach he would indulge them, but reassured the rest of the class (who may not have expanded the information as far) not to worry about that specific discussion - this prevented students from feeling overwhelmed by the additional details and from feeling less intelligent. (I appreciated it.)

  • The homework journals were a valuable assignment, although they did take some time to complete. The instructor is a warm person, with plenty of higher level math knowledge, and does a great job of sharing that with his students. I would not have wanted to have any other instructor for this course.

  • This class was amazing, simply because of the professor. I found the original content a bit dull, but he was able to gain and keep my interest throughout the whole class. Normally, I would have only attended enough classes to get a good grade, but I found myself not wanting to miss out on what happened in class. He gave us journals to reflect on the work we had done during the week and always encouraged us to ask questions.

  • Yes I would recommend the instructor to another student. The classroom experience is light and enjoyable that helps the learning and constructing atmosphere.

  • Yes! Chris did an excellent job at keeping the class engaged, relating the material to our future careers as teachers, and incorporating a variety of activities and demonstrations throughout class. The way he teaches this course makes it clear he is really passionate about math and helping students learn this material to be effective teachers in the future.

  • Yes, I would recommend this instructor to another student. I thought he was an excellent teacher. He explained everything well. He used examples, pictures, and things we could touch like blocks or cubes. He answered questions well. I thought he was a great instructor.

Business Calculus I (MTH124) - Fall 2018

  • Absolutely! Chris Dubbs is the BEST math instructor I have ever had at this University. Although I'm not a big fan of math, I enjoyed this class. Did I pass: LOL Did I learn something and enjoy going to class: Yes, without a doubt.

  • As an instructor, Chris is genuinely the kindest person I have ever met. He is truly dedicated to helping every single student understand the material and explains complicated concepts in a way that is incredibly easy to understand. I would strongly recommend him to any student looking to take MTH124.

  • Mr. Dubbs is a very good teacher with good policies and a welcoming classroom atmosphere. Classes are quite casual though still focused on learning, and it makes learning the material much less stressful in the long run.

  • Yes, this instructor was great. He always encouraged questions and never made you feel stupid for asking them. He took as much time as needed to answer them and was always very thorough. I highly recommend this instructor for anyone taking MTH 124.
